«Adolescência» is a celebration and (meta-)reflection on archetypes of aggression in youth culture and music with a particular focus on the period around the popularisation of the internet in the 1990s-2010s.
Ricardo Eizirik creates an audiovisual environment with walls of sound, drones, riffs, noise, breaks, some of which come from his own youthful experiences in Brazil, where he played in punk, hardcore, drone, metal, indie and noise rock bands, as well as from the expressions of youthful aggression in a culture that he has experienced and collected over the years (hip-hop, electronic music, improvised music, Brazilian funk).
The play and its thematic focus serve as a metaphor for historical tensions between the global South and the global North that have built up over centuries of colonial history. The production and the play's references are very much anchored in the contemporary developments of this history.
