The two co-directors, Roberto Maqueda and Jules Hildebrand, of FOG (Festival of Open Genres) present an evening dedicated to new electronic music and play their latest works:
«Ante Bellum» by Jules Hildebrand aka Ostrov uses minimalist electronic music to address the failure of communication. In «AIR», Roberto Maqueda combines electronic and acoustic elements to create analogue drum machines. Finally, sound and media artist Denim Szram will perform a DJ set.
«Ante Bellum» (lat: Before the war) is a concept album/performance by Jules Hildebrand, alias Ostrov. The minimalist electronic music combines elements of ambient, noise, industrial and folk, as well as experimental audio design. The main theme is a reflection on the failure of language and communication. By integrating noise, silence and voice as central components of the composition, this breakdown is to be visualised and illustrate how the failure of communication can lead to escalation, conflict and ultimately even war.
«AIR» is Roberto Maqueda's first solo project, inspired by the concept of multi-layering inherent in percussion. In this project, amplified instruments are combined with solenoid valve modules, creating analogue drum machines. «AIR» is a clear manifesto of Maqueda's aesthetics and approach to music and art, combining electronic elements with his background as a percussionist.
Denim Szram is a sound and media artist. His artistic practice oscillates between composition, multimedia installations and immersive environments. As an electronic musician, he creates compositions for spaces, dance and theatre. His expertise is particularly evident in the design of immersive sound installations in which he stages architectural acoustics. He expands sound by integrating different media and develops audiovisual systems and musical interfaces to explore new forms of expression.
