«Brundibár» – «Ein Lied auf den Lippen»

The children's opera «Brundibár» by Hans Krasa is embedded in the commissioned work «Ein Lied auf den Lippen» by Stephen Menotti (Basel) and Michelle B. Ross (New York). The evening centres on the power of art, which makes it possible to experience oneself as a human being even under inhuman living conditions. Ross and Menotti would like to honour Krása's work and the children of the Theresienstadt camp.
20 children and young people from the Insel orchestra school searched for the significance of music for their own lives, for our society and for people in refugee camps and prisons. What role do memories and «cultural baggage» play in this?
The 14 musicians of the ensemble «le raid merveilleux» provide expressivity and drama and support the children and young people playing along in clearly communicating the insights gained on an artistic and aesthetic level.
