Illuminationen Nr. 5: Automat und Organismus

Michael Kleine & Johannes Keller

The «Arciorgano» is a reconstruction of an organ with 31 keys per octave developed by Nicola Vicentino in the 16th century. The artist Michael Kleine and the musician Johannes Keller stage a solo for this wonder instrument. The exotic instrument died out as late as the Renaissance. The specimen of its inventor was burned after his death from the plague. A few years ago, a single one was rebuilt according to the surviving plans. Its lute can be similar to a human voice. Its bellows are like the lungs of a breathing organism. The regularity of its breath captivates us. We synchronise ourselves with him.
