When it comes to opera, many people start dreaming: of the immediate power of song and of a universal language of music – a language that connects everyone. Does the ancient powerhouse of emotions really hold opportunities for boundless understanding? Should everyone finally learn to sing arias?
For «A Singthing», the music theatre duo Hofmann/van Bebber is developing an evening of arias together with the percussionist Sabrina Ma, the actress Athina Lange and the visual artist Ladislav Zajac. With dramatic faces and pulsating lights, with grand gestures and perceptible sound waves, they design possibilities of multisensory musical encounters. As part of the artistic research project [in]operabilities, «A Singthing» questions opera for its accessibility, for possibilities of inclusive working and for the usefulness of «opera-abilities» for living together.
