The Nouvel Ensemble Contemporain de La Chaux-de-Fonds (NEC) is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2025. This is an opportunity for the ensemble to come up with more ambitious and original projects than ever before. Together with singer and actress Jeannine Hirzel and director and composer Astride Schlaefli, the ensemble will create a piece that combines music and gastronomy and is inspired by Marco Ferreri's famous 1973 film «La grande bouffe» (The Great Feast).
Half a century ago, this film shocked viewers by criticising the decadent overconsumption of society's upper classes with a raw look. Today, the topic is unfortunately still topical and is taking on even more disturbing dimensions. However, «La grande bouffe» by NEC will take a fresh look at this bitter realisation. With humour, absurdity and empathy. In the form of an immersive evening, this performance plays with the physical proximity of the audience. There will be music, singing, listening, dancing, cooking, eating and drinking... in short - it will be a big party!
Astride Schlaefli (director/composer); Jeannine Hirzel (guest soloist/artistic collaborator); Le Nouvel Ensemble Contemporain: Claire-Pascale Musard (oboe), Jean-François Lehmann (clarinet), Alain Bertholet (trumpet), Martial Rosselet (trombone), Noëlle-Anne Darbellay and Carole Haering (violin), Marie Schwab (viola), Esther and Martina Brodbeck (violoncello), Antoine Françoise (piano), Julien Mégroz (percussion)
A sonic surprise menu with certainly creations by Astride Schlaefli (*1978), as well as perhaps pieces by Rudolph Kelterborn, Gustav Mahler, Johann Sebastian Bach and most probably arrangements of songs by Michael Nyman, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Laurie Anderson, and others...
During the concert there will be food and drinks for the audience.
The concert will be followed by a discussion with the audience.
