From electronica and Afrofuturist storytelling to avant-pop and jazz - OY invite you to follow their soundscapes and enter a utopian universe beyond clichés with a narrative-driven set at Gare du Nord.
First the world moved closer together, then the borders were drawn up again. That's the bad news. But the good news is that OY are not playing the game. Singer/keyboardist Joy Frempong and producer/drummer Melodydreamer have been making music across all musical, linguistic and cultural borders for a decade. The Berlin-based duo with roots in Ghana and Switzerland has thrilled audiences on stages around the world, be it at festivals such as Eurockéenes in France, Rec Beat in Brazil or at club shows in downtown Cairo and New York. It is therefore only logical that the title of their current album is «World Wide We». Polyglot negotiations of political and personal themes are realised musically.
In the second part of the evening, Kaspar Deicher (aka DJ Steinschlag) invites us in his audiovisual performance to consciously perceive the soundscape of our everyday lives and to experience the subtleties of the sounds produced by humans. Analogue machine constructions meet the pulsating, tireless heartbeat of electronic instruments. In this piece, the combination of «do-it-yourself electronics», record players, drum machines and computers creates a harmonious balance - between man and machine, warmth and cold, control and chaos as well as algorithm and humanity.
