Founded in 2013 by Jean-Christophe Groffe, the Ensemble Thélème brings together musicians from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis who specialise in the interpretation of early music and want to explore it from new perspectives. The ensemble cultivates a lively dialogue with the works of the Renaissance and makes them resonate in our time. For their album «Baisiez may» they received the prestigious Gramophone Award (Early Music) 2022.
For this concert, they will collaborate with Serbian composer and sound artist Svetlana Maraš, whose work spans a variety of formats including live performance, electroacoustic composition, sound installations and works for radio. Maraš's highly prolific career has gained worldwide recognition. She is currently Professor of Creative Music Technology and Co-Director of the Electronic Studio at the Hochschule für Musik FNHW in Basel.
Maraš and Thélème's interplay brings together voices generations apart, creating sounds and atmospheres rarely heard in today's world. Throughout their respective careers, both have developed fascinating collaborations, exploring the limits of interaction of their respective music.
Thélème: Julien Freymuth, Lior Leibovici, Ivo Haun, Jean-Christophe Groffe; Ziv Braha (lute); Svetlana Maraš (synthesizer, electronics)
