Protonwerk No. 13

Protonwerk not only serves to expand the ensemble's repertoire, it also offers composers the opportunity to work on and perform their pieces in a professional environment. The Ensemble Proton Bern attaches great importance to close contact between composers and performers: the musicians of the ensemble offer individual workshops in all working phases and the entire ensemble rehearses the pieces (or sketches) in the early phases of the composition process. Through Protonwerk, young composers come into contact with experienced soloists for contemporary music. The main focus is on conveying instrumental-technical experience, as well as its relation to the overall musical result. The rich instrumentarium of Ensemble Proton Bern is unique in Switzerland, so that the selected composers can get to know rare instruments and write for «exotic» combinations beyond the usual new music instrumentations.
