The 9th edition of the Mizmorim Chamber Music Festival, from 19 to 22 January
2023 will follow the stations of Theodor Herzl's (1860-1904) life to relate musical works of his time. Herzl not only gave the Zionist "Project Blue and White" - the movement for a Jewish nation state - theoretical and practical foundations with his writing "The Jewish State", published in 1896, and the Zionist Congress held for the first time in Basel in 1897. The lawyer, who worked as a writer and journalist, saw the path to a Jewish state as being based on European political principles and placed great value on culture - especially music. In twelve concerts and panel discussions, the Mizmorim Chamber Music Festival presents important, including forgotten, works by Jewish and non-Jewish composers in the field of tension between the utopia and reality of Zionism.
