Dürrenmatts Hirn

Bernhard Lang has set Dürrenmatt's last text «The Brain» to music for the Ensemble Proton Bern to create a full-length musical-literary piece.
«I have been captivated by the text's eschatological force ever since I first read it after it appeared in 1990, and it has now also inspired a large piece that juxtaposes a solo voice with a chamber music ensemble. the voice follows Dürrenmatt's stream of speech in an uninterrupted recitative tone of the highest intensity; the ensemble mirrors this speech melody and rhythm, amplifying the gesture of being breathlessly rushed, in its urgency and panic; loops, differential harmonies and «Damaged Beats» form the structure underlying the score.» (Bernhard Lang)
After the successful premiere in Bern in December 2021, the Ensemble Proton Bern will now also perform this work at the Gare du Nord in Basel.
